Manor House and Whixley Extension

Two more completed projects added to the website today:  one a large house in Marton-cum-Grafton, and the other an extension to a Georgian house in Whixley in North Yorkshire.

The house in Marton-cum-Grafton was originally a barn conversion with outbuildings but its poor state meant that it had to be pulled down and replaced.  Surprisingly the planners allowed a much bigger house to be built than the existing cluster, but the original layout and roof form of the buildings has been respected, with the inner bailey (or courtyard) retained.

The extension in Whixley was a fun project for us but difficult for the builders due to a poor access that meant all the building materials and equipment had to be brought in by hand or wheelbarrow.  The end result is pleasingly simple - managing to be traditional enough to harmonise with the existing house but with a large contemporary glazed screen.
