The site was originally part of a large garden on the Duchy Estate in Harrogate which was sold for development. It was quite a constrained site with mature trees and privacy issues to be considered, as well as having a significant slope from the back to the road side. Adjoining development had set a precedent for modern architecture and the flat roof design reduced the impact on the apartments behind.
